Kappa Love

Just thought I would give a little inspiration for recruitment week.

"People ask why I am in a sorority and I try to explain all the things a sorority is that they cannot see. A sorority is more than letters on a sweatshirt. More than traditional songs, a gold pin, rituals, and obligation, or a way of life. A sorority is learning about people. A sorority is giving without expecting a return. A sorority is earning respect from others, as well as for yourself. A sorority will not solve all your problems. But I have made good friends and found confidence there to help me take life one step at a time.”

Happiness is Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Just before you go to sleep
Think of blues both light and deep;
Think about the key that you wear
And Kappa Sisters, true and fair;
Think about the owl so wise
And a bond that never dies.
Think about the fleur-de-lis
And then, again, about the key.
But most of all, before you sleep
Think of friends you’ll always keep.

Sharing Paradise With My Sisters

Over the summer Amy and I decided to share our little piece of heaven with our sorority sisters. We had a great turn out of 14 girls for the seven hour drive from Salt Lake to McCall. The first night we had a bbq and went to the famous Ice Cream Alley. We capped our night off with a bonfire!

The second day we began with a hike to the chilly Boulder Lake. That was an adventure! The snowmelt was so big that the lake was flowing out so rapidly we had to climb up the rocks to get to the lake. The hour-ish hike was very rewarding once we reached the top!

We then went boating and to Charlie's Garden! One of my favorite spots in McCall.

Everyone had a great weekend and nobody wanted to go home. My sisters fell in love, and I was happy to share my home with them.

Patriotism At Its Finest

It has always been a tradition in my family to pack up the car and go to McCall, Idaho for the 4th of July. We would usually spend just a few weeks. Now it has extended (mostly just for me) to a month. Nobody knows a good Independence Day celebration until they venture to McCall, Idaho also known as paradise. We go all out. There is a street parade, boat parade, party on North Beach and the day ends with fireworks over the beautiful lake. This year I purchased Red, White and Blue Sperry's to top off my outfit. You see, the outfit really matters. We have patriotic bathing suits, shoes, and clothing that is worn all day long. What would an Independence Day celebration be without a bbq, special baked goods and boating.

This year was different though. I didn't have two of my best friends by my side. I missed them dearly. Kaylee and Derek were missed too. But most importantly my brother. I realized this year that is is what growing up is about. Spending many holidays without those who you grew up with. Life changes and you must roll with the punches. The one thing I am most thankful for is still having my Grandma by my side!

We cram so much into one small day. But it is so worth it. Because of all these activities and the joys and beauty of fireworks over the lake,  the 4th of July has been declared one of my favorite holidays.
